Gingerbread Houses
Thursday 18th, 2014
Thursday 18th, 2014
Today, we built gingerbread houses with Kindergartners. It was a very fun experience because the Kindergartners came up with creative ideas that I would have never come up with.
First, we arrived at Profesora Marita`s classroom and she assigned us with her kindergartners. I got assigned with a kid called Dominik. He was very helpful and liked to cheer people up. Together, we started making a gingerbread house that started out as crackers glued to a carton of milk.
Profesora Marita gave us a lot of candies that we could glue to our houses using frosting. Everyone made marvelous houses and I think everyone had fun too. I hope the Kindergartners had as much fun as we did.

Field Trip to Minneapolis
Thursday 04th, 2014
Thursday 04th, 2014
On December 4th, 2014 all the 5th Graders from Clearview Elementary School went on a field trip to Minneapolis (the Minnesota capital). From there we went to the Orchestra Hall and watched a play Opera Thingy. It was titled "Amal and The Night Visitors".
The play was about a crippled boy and her mother who were poor. Amal always told lies so when he told his mother that there was three kings out side their house she did not believe him. After she realized that it was true they host the three kings though they had nothing to offer. So, that was it basically.
The play was kind of short but I still loved it and from the "ohs" and "ahs" I think the other 5th graders enjoyed it as well.

institute of art
On the 4th of December, Prof. Marias class went to an art museum in Minneapolis. When you walk in, there was digital art on the ceiling that looks like rocks in water. The museum had many different pieces of art from many different cultures.
I learned that art can come in any form. One piece was a samurai’s armor with a praying mantis on his helmet to represent wisdom, strength and speed. Every group had an instructor who helped give information on the art.
I also learned how to look for detail in art so I could understand the history of the piece. There was a piece about a young girl, about 24, who was about to get married. The piece was made in the early 1800’s. In the piece, there was a guitar, a book in her hand and a dog. From those details, I could tell that she had an interest in music, she loved to read and maybe liked learning; also that dogs and other animals liked her.
Some art pieces are very precise, while some are abstract. Abstract means that the subject is not as obvious or can’t be found easily. Art can tell a story about a time in history. Art can be non-fiction or fiction.
Going to the art museum helped me better understand art. It was a good learning experience for me and my class. It showed me that with art you can make anything using your imagination.

The Planets' Presentation
Monday 02nd, 2014.
Today, me and my friends Kamryn and Grace did a presentation on the planets of our solar system like Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and the earth .
We did three planets each and we share many different facts like. Also we made a poster with lots of photos and information that we used three pieces of construction paper to hold it.
All our classmates were really happy for our presentation. At the end we made some questions to them about our presentation, so as they answered the questions they got quintos for paying attention.
Peyton.

Besides Gamelan, on Tuesday we did our MAP Math, most of us did pretty well.
In language arts we had a spelling test. Most people did an amazing job.
In Social studies we have been reading about the revolutionary war. We also watch videos in class so we
can visualize what actually happened, the videos are called “Liberty's Kids.’ Its fun learning about what happened and what made our history be our history.

MONDAY:
On Monday we did many interesting and exciting things. Like Gamelan, it was our second day learning how to play the different lines and learning about the different and unique instruments. In math, we continued to practice dividing fractions and had mountains of homework! Our science MCAs were fast approaching so we had lots of things to cover and review.
TUESDAY:
Tuesday was another fun and adventurous day. We had a fun time with a substitute named Miss Joyce. We had Gamelan at 8:00-9:00 and we learned new lines for our song. After getting back from our Gamelan practice, we had language arts and science. In science we reviewed the things we learned in the early months of the school year.
WEDNESDAY:
Wednesday was a very important day. We had our science MCA and had our favorite part of the day, Gamelan.
THURSDAY:
Thursday was another normal day. We had a normal routine, yet, we had fun. We had finished the science MCA so we could focus on social studies. So in social studies we learned about the American Revolution and read our social studies book.
FRIDAY:
Friday is everyone’s favorite day of the week, right? So let’s talk about the day... We worked on more Gamelan and learned more lines to our song. We had our normal routine, math, language arts, social studies, and then, the end of the day!

What we did this week...
- by Jacob A. and Ethan S.-
Monday
Monday everybody’s favorite day of the week... ok, let’s get started we learned how to divide fractions and in gym we ran the mile and the temperature was about 65*F.
Ethan and I ran it together. I got 7:32 and Ethan got 7:35 pretty close scores but
I ran as fast as I could at the last lap! so that is Monday.
#By Jacob A
Tuesday
We didn't do that much, except going to music.
#by Ethan
Wednesday
In Wednesday, We learned how to divide fractions and in gym we went goecaching. I found a goecach and I was surprised but it was my group's first goecach found and goecaching was a fun experience!
#by Jacob A
Thursday
We had a reading map test and it was easy. Also a science test and again we went to music.
#by Ethan S
Friday
So we started doing gamelan at 8 o’clock to 9 o’clock and that was really fun!
Ethan and I are playing instruments and Jonathan, an other friend, chose to dance. The instruments were easy at first but then when Joco -the teacher- added more notes for us to play it got so confusing... but we got it and understand it now and Jonathan said dancing is fun but we don’t like to dance.

Hi,
this is Kiley M. and Priya!
This week in math we split up into 3 groups for MCA practice. We practiced mean, median, mode and range. We made line and bar graphs and some of us did circle graphs.
We reviewed our shapes and worked on nets.We also worked on area and volume. Some groups did the area of a circle.
Let’s move on to Language Arts. This week we’ve been learning about Earthquakes, Tsunamis, Tornados and other big storms. We also read 2 books about big storms. 1 of them is called Terremoto aterrador. Witch means Terrifying earthquake. The second story was called Volcanes or Volcanoes. Now to science.
In science we read Relieves de la Tierra or Reliefs of the land. This book is about different parts of the world like The Grand Canyon, ocean or the mountains. We learned about land forms characteristics of ground water. Like mountains, oceans, valley, cascade and many other names of these things. Many other things like that. Now to Social Studies.
In Social Studies we learned about the conquistadors that concord the Incas and the Aztecs. Here are some examples of what we learned. We learned that Spaniards took over the Aztecs and Incas and they took all their gold and riches. Spaniards took over Native American tribes and made them slaves. They also made Africans their slaves. They would go to Africa with European goods and traded it for slaves.
Last but not least Gym. In gym we made fishing hooks, spinner hooks to be exact. We also learned how to make bee hive knots.
That is what we have done this week.

Hi there!
We are Laura y Adrian,
This week we learned about explorers. It was fun and educational.
We also filled out our packets with information about said explorers.
We picked out our own randomly selected person to investigate and created a paper about them. This paper would later on be used for an activity that we did to heighten our acknowledgement on explorers. We enjoyed this very much.
In science we also filled out packets for our simple machines we would be showing to Marina. The goal was to lift the water bottle to a desk without using our hands. It was a long journey of trial and error. But eventually we got it and were happy. We also learned a little about natural disasters and what havoc they bring but also the science that’s involved in them.
It was a fun week! –

Hi we are Faith and Noah,
we will be telling you about our crazy week in Profesora Maria’s class!
This week in math we started learning about how to find the volume of a three dimensional shape or figure, how to find surface area of a three dimensional shape or figure, and a lot of geometry.
It just started getting crazy when we had a few days to finish our big projects that were going on at the same time and the due dates were a couple of days apart.
We also finished our “Number the Stars” project for language arts.
This week we learned about the Native Americans for socials studies. Some of us did power points and some did posters.
We spent a lot of our time in the computer lab, doing our Native American project and our Number the Stars project.
In science, we learned about the simple and compound machines that we use in our every-day life.
In gym class we’re learning about survival skills and canoeing for our end of the year field trip, when we will be going to Warner Lake to canoe, to go fishing and to go geocaching. On March twenty eighth we will be taking a field trip to Tech high school where we will be able to practice survival skills before we go to Warner Lake.
Thank you,
Faith and Noah

Hola somos Faith y Noah,
Gracias,
Faith y Noah

Hi my name is Nathaly and I’m here with Sophie
We’re going to tell you what we learned this week.
This week in Social Studies we are doing a project about Native Americans and their tribes. The students have a choice whether they want to do a power point or a poster. This project is due on March 21st . I can’t wait to see what we come up with!
This week in Language Arts we’re doing projects about a book we read, the book is “Number the Stars.” The students have a range of choices. The projects must add up to 10 points when the teacher grades them. The choices are,
And in this week in Math we learned about how to find the area of different shapes. We also learned about new subjects like diameter, radio and a circumference of a circle. And a few days back the teacher introduced us to a new thing called pi.
Our favorite thing that happened this week was probably learning about the new subject pi!

Hi! I am Elisia :)
Last week, in math, we learned how to add and a little bit of subtracting fractions with different denominators. When we learned all the steps, it became quite fun.
In science we did a very helpful worksheet for a science test and Grecia Lopez -the teacher for the day- helped with language arts on what we've been studying for a while (aguda, llana, esdrújula y sobreesdrújula).
For Valentine's day we were going to pass out candy at the end of the day but we ended up doing it at snack time. It was a lot of fun!! Smiles all around!!
Check out our picss!!
-Elisia-
P.S. Thank you to the parents and students for the kind gifts today!! We appreciate them!! (Prof. María and Marina)

Hola!
Parents/guardians, this is both Megan’s from Profesora Maria’s class.
We’re going to tell you what we did this week:
On Monday we had our end of the month party, we celebrated with roller blading.
On Tuesday we learned about turning an improper fraction into a mixed fraction.
On Wednesday we learned about how to put fractions in order.
On Thursday we learned about the early Americans and what they did and what they experienced before time
and before all this technology. They suffered many things that you couldn’t even think of . They worshiped
gods of all kinds.
On Friday we had lots of fun, first we reviewed math and then we took the math test. When we had snack,
our teacher brought us ice-cream (it was delicious!!! ☻) and we had another test for spelling. After that
we went to art and we started to work on our clay pots (some had to finish their peace poster in any language),
when we came back to our classroom we had our test about the Early Americans, and whoever got done it quick,
got to go to the library. After lunch we went back to the classroom for a while and after a bit we talked about
the Olympics every class in the school got a country that participates in the winter Olympics and
ours was LIECHTENSTEIN!!
That’s all for now so bye and thanks for reading ☻

Hello parents/guardians
this is Josilin & Libby from Prof. Maria’s class!
We would like to share our experience with you. Everyone has been working very hard on this fun project (since Dec. 18, 2013). A lot of kids enjoyed the inventor’s fair project, which they did a great job on. They had marvelous ideas for their projects!
Our projects names are the Poppy-Woppy & the Livestock Lock. Libby had a hard time with keeping the clips on her boot. Josilin had a hard time with thinking about how it would work. The other kids had some difficulties too, but they fix them and their projects were amazing.
We are very grateful how everything turned out. We hope you enjoyed the inventor’s fair. Otherwise if you haven’t seen the projects, you can see them in the library or here we posted some pictures.
Thanks for your attention & have a happy weekend!
